About HOKA Shoes

HOKA was started in 2009 by two ultra-runners in the French Alps who wanted twice the cushion most brands offered. The name comes from a Maori phrase, "fly over the earth." Today HOKA's signature combination of deep cushioning and Meta-Rocker geometry — that gentle curve at the heel and forefoot — makes it one of the most-fitted brands at Karavel, for everyone from marathon runners to people on their feet eight hours a day.

HOKA Running Shoes for Daily Training

For everyday road miles, runners typically pick between the lightweight cushioned trainers like the Clifton, the max-cushion long-mileage options like the Bondi, and faster-rolling tempo shoes like the Mach. Many of HOKA's daily trainers are available in standard and wide widths, and several come in extended sizes — useful in our shop where foot shape varies as much as running goals.

HOKA for Trail Running and Hiking

HOKA's trail line covers aggressive technical terrain (the Speedgoat, with deep lugs and a rock plate), mixed trail-to-road use (the Challenger ATR), and lighter hiking (the Anacapa, which wraps a HOKA chassis in waterproof leather). Austin customers who run the Greenbelt or hike out of town tend to gravitate toward this group.

HOKA for Walking and Long Days on Your Feet

Nurses, teachers, and anyone on hard floors gravitate to HOKA's max-cushion lineup. Models like the Bondi, Gaviota, and Transport take pressure off knees and hips; the rocker keeps the stride moving when fatigue sets in. The Bondi in particular is one of our most-recommended HOKAs for customers managing plantar fasciitis.
